Yangsan City Library Selects Yangsan City's 'Book of the Year' for 2025

Gyeongnam Yangsan City Library has selected Kim Eungsuk's "Momjit" and Go Yi's "Eggs Crack!" as the 2025 Yangsan City 'Book of the Year' reading campaign books.

The Yangsan City 'Book of the Year' reading campaign is a reading promotion policy that selects books by local authors or books reflecting local sentiments for all citizens to read together, and develops various linked reading programs. This campaign has been ongoing since 2022.

The general category selected book, "Momjit," is an essay collection that depicts overcoming painful wounds caused by severe childhood poverty through writing. The author, Kim Eungsuk, is a local writer residing in Deokgye-dong, Yangsan. She won the grand prize in the novel category of the 17th Dongseo Literary Award in 2024 for her short story "Bungee Jump," and has received numerous other awards including the Siheung Literary Award.

The children's category selected book, "Eggs Crack!," is a collection of short fairy tales featuring impoverished and marginalized children as protagonists. The author, Go Yi, is a local writer residing in Dong-myeon, Yangsan. She won the 2020 Busan Ilbo New Year's Literary Contest and was selected for the 2023 Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Promotion Agency's Culture and Arts Support Project.

Kim Mikyung, director of the city library, stated, “Throughout 2025, we will promote various reading advancement programs such as reading relays, meetings with authors, and book report contests centered on the selected books, aiming to create a Yangsan united by books through shared cultural experiences with citizens.”
