Recently, as more residents are growing companion plants at home, interest in plants has increased. Especially, growing companion plants at home offers various benefits such as emotional stability, indoor temperature and humidity control, creating a comfortable environment through the release of negative ions and phytoncides from plants, and effects like fine dust absorption and air purification.

The Gijang-gun Agricultural Technology Center will conduct various ‘Companion Plant Clinic Services’ to ease residents’ difficulties in managing companion plants and support healthy hobbies.

The Agricultural Technology Center will open and operate the clinic service from February to November. Classes run from Monday to Thursday, with two sessions in the morning (10 a.m., 11 a.m.) and three in the afternoon (2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m.), totaling five sessions per day. The service is provided to 10 people daily, with two people per session. Participants can receive overall companion plant management consulting, including water management and pest control, from plant experts, as well as repotting services.

Additionally, the Agricultural Technology Center operates a ‘Visiting Companion Plant Clinic Service’ targeting 50 apartment complexes. This service is a customized visiting horticulture education program, selecting 50 apartments to operate two apartments per day from April 7 to May 9.

Residents visiting the site can receive not only repotting services but also overall companion plant management consulting from plant experts, including water management and pest control. In particular, the event is conducted in collaboration with urban agriculture managers belonging to the Gijang-gun Urban Agriculture Council, contributing to job creation in urban agriculture.

Moreover, a ‘Special Companion Plant Clinic Lecture’ will be opened and operated for residents. On May 15 and 22, 80 trainees will be recruited over two days to demonstrate companion plant clinic services and provide education on indoor plant care methods and repotting techniques.

A representative from the Gijang-gun Agricultural Technology Center said, “We hope that by supporting easy management of companion plants through various clinic services, it will contribute to residents’ emotional stability and vitality of life,” adding, “We also expect the spread of companion plant culture to revitalize the local floriculture industry.”

Since 2013, the Agricultural Technology Center has been conducting visiting education for apartment residents on improving indoor environments using plants, plant care methods, pot repotting techniques, and the use of effective microorganisms (EM), receiving high interest and positive responses from residents.
