for Unconscious Woman at Gayang Station
Gangseo-gu, Seoul, presented a plaque of appreciation on the 12th to Lee Seon-yeong, who saved a citizen who lost consciousness and collapsed at Gayang Station on Subway Line 9. Lee, a nurse working at Gimpo Airport Wooridul Hospital, performed emergency treatment on a female passenger who collapsed on the train during her commute on the 6th of last month, saving her life.

Lee recounted the situation, saying, “At the time, the collapsed woman was unconscious, with cold sweat running down her forehead and head, and there was no detectable breathing or pulse, making it an urgent situation.”
Lee asked for help from those nearby and moved the collapsed woman outside the train before administering first aid. Considering the possibility of hypoglycemic shock, she elevated the patient’s legs using a bag and padding, attempted to communicate with the patient, and stayed by her side until the paramedics arrived.
After handing the patient over to the paramedics, Lee confirmed that the patient’s blood sugar and blood pressure had returned to normal before leaving. Lee’s good deed was brought to light through a report from the patient’s acquaintance and a post the patient herself made on the hospital bulletin board.
Jin Gyo-hoon, head of Gangseo-gu Office, said, “We express our respect and gratitude for the selfless spirit of the hero who actively provided emergency aid before anyone else,” adding, “The district office will do its best to ensure that the positive influence of this hero, who thought of and acted for their neighbor, spreads throughout the local community.”
