Lee Jae-myung to Meet Kim Kyung-soo at National Assembly on 13th... Accelerating Integration Efforts

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, will meet with former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo on the 13th.

The Democratic Party announced on the 12th that Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, will hold a meeting with former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo at the National Assembly the following day.

This meeting is known to have been proposed first by Lee to Kim. Since Kim is considered one of the key presidential hopefuls from the non-Lee (anti-Lee Jae-myung) faction, this meeting is interpreted as Lee signaling his intention to accelerate efforts for party unity.

Earlier, Kim returned to Korea on December 6 last year, shortly after the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. At the time of his return, he said, "If we can build a party that can lead the Republic of Korea together (with Lee), I will play whatever role I can in that process."

One month later, during the Lunar New Year holiday on the 29th of last month, Kim directly urged Lee to "apologize to those who left the party in disgrace," attempting to rally the pro-Moon (pro-Moon Jae-in) faction.

After rejoining the party on the 7th, Kim said in a radio interview that he spoke with Lee, who said, "(The leader) expressed regret that diversity within the party has not been realized recently."

Some in the political sphere expect Kim, as the "legitimate heir" of the pro-Moon faction, to play a strategic casting vote role for the non-Lee faction in the party’s presidential primary and other contests.
