Democratic Party and Party for Justice and Innovation Issue Joint Statement
Inquiry Session Scheduled for the 18th
Opposition lawmakers belonging to the National Assembly's Education Committee pledged on the 12th to thoroughly investigate the truth and prevent recurrence in relation to the Daejeon elementary school student murder case.
Democratic Party and Party for Justice and Innovation lawmakers on the Education Committee stated in a joint statement on the morning of the same day regarding the "Daejeon Elementary School Student Murder Case," "We express our deep condolences on this incident and offer our sympathies to the bereaved family of the victim."
Opposition education committee members said, "We promise to do our utmost to thoroughly uncover the truth of this tragic incident and to prevent similar incidents from recurring," adding, "We will pay closer attention to safety in educational settings and student protection, and concentrate all our efforts on devising effective improvement measures."
The Education Committee plans to hold a session on the 18th to receive a report from the Ministry of Education and conduct inquiries regarding the Daejeon elementary school student murder case.
Meanwhile, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, intends to visit the funeral hall in Daejeon where the victim's wake is being held in the afternoon to console the bereaved family.
