People Power Party to Visit Constitutional Court at 11 a.m. on the 12th
On Lee Jae-myung's Prospect of Acquittal: "Innocent by Mouth, Fleeing by Foot"
Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, claimed on the 12th that the Constitutional Court, which is handling the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol and Prime Minister Han Deok-su, is conducting the proceedings not based on the 'rule of law' but on 'rule by person' (Inchi).
At the floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, Leader Kwon criticized, "If constitutional court justices arbitrarily interpret the law and violate human rights, that is not the 'rule of law' but merely the 'rule by person' of Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae of the Constitutional Court," adding, "They have prioritized political judgment and made the important impeachment schedule a complete mess."
Regarding the Constitutional Court's stance that the prosecution's suspect interrogation records can be used as evidence in the impeachment trial, he argued that it ignores the Criminal Procedure Act, which states that "if the suspect does not admit, the suspect interrogation records cannot be used as evidence in a criminal trial," thus disregarding the law.
Leader Kwon further challenged, "The Constitutional Court claims that 'constitutional trials are different from criminal trials,' but Article 40 of the Constitutional Court Act clearly states that 'impeachment trials shall apply the laws related to criminal procedures.'"
He continued, "The Constitutional Court is blatantly ignoring the Constitutional Court Act; how can the public trust the Constitutional Court?" and emphasized, "The defendant's human rights and defense rights under the Criminal Procedure Act, along with the related procedures, must be strictly observed."
He also claimed that the prolonged impeachment trial of Prime Minister Han is a result of the Constitutional Court succumbing to the forces of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party.
Leader Kwon stated, "The Lee Jae-myung faction arbitrarily interpreted the constitution to suspend the acting president's duties, which was by far the most dictatorial tyranny among the 29 consecutive impeachments by the Lee Jae-myung faction," and stressed, "The Constitutional Court's evasion of the quorum issue and the prolongation of Prime Minister Han's suspension according to the Democratic Party's intentions is itself a silence and submission to the impeachment dictatorship of the Lee Jae-myung faction."
Leader Kwon and the People Power Party floor leadership plan to visit the Constitutional Court in protest at 11 a.m. that day and urge them to restore trust in fairness.

He also criticized Lee for appearing on the YouTube show 'Kim Eo-jun's Humility is Difficult News Factory,' operated by broadcaster Kim Eo-jun, saying, "While the Democratic Party made a fuss about cracking down on fake news, their party leader is happily meeting with a professional conspiracy theorist."
Regarding Lee's remark the previous day that "how can memories be punished," which suggested a prospect of acquittal, Leader Kwon said, "If he is so confident, why did he refuse to accept the lawsuit notification by moving without leaving a forwarding address and requesting a constitutional review?" and added, "It looks like a suspect claiming innocence with his mouth while fleeing on foot."
He continued, "It is shameful enough that the party leader is on trial for election law violations, but his frivolous attitude while gauging the trial schedule is truly reckless."
On the delay of Lee's trial, he said, "Lee Jae-myung's very existence is the cause of declining trust in the judiciary."
