On the 12th, the day of Jeongwol Daeboreum, most regions nationwide are expected to experience snow or rain, gradually tapering off. However, some areas including inland and mountainous regions of Gangwon, northern Chungbuk, Jeolla region, northeastern inland Gyeongbuk, western inland Gyeongnam, and Jeju Island are expected to see precipitation continuing until evening.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 12th, the expected snowfall amounts are as follows: northern Gyeonggi 1?5 cm, Seoul, Incheon, southern Gyeonggi, and the five western islands about 1 cm, inland and mountainous Gangwon 3?8 cm, Chungbuk 1?5 cm, inland Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam about 1 cm, eastern inland Jeolla about 1 cm, Daegu and inland Gyeongbuk and southern Gyeongbuk east coast 1?5 cm, northern Gyeongbuk east coast and western inland Gyeongnam about 1 cm, and mountainous Jeju about 1 cm.
The maximum daily new snowfall depths at major locations as of 8 a.m. are: Ganghwa Buleumdo 5.3 cm, Seoul 1.5 cm, Gangwon Hwacheon Gwangdeoksan 2.7 cm, Chungbuk Okcheon Cheongsan 4.5 cm, Chungnam Gongju Yugu 3.9 cm, Daejeon 3.7 cm, Sejong 3.7 cm, Jeonbuk Namwon Baemsagol 5.6 cm, Jeonnam Hwasun Baegamyeon 5.8 cm, Gyeongbuk Chilgok Palgongsan 3.4 cm, Gyeongnam Sancheong Jirisan 6.9 cm, and Jinju 3.9 cm.
Strong snowfall is expected in the central region and some southern inland areas until the morning. In areas experiencing heavy snow, visibility will decrease, and many places will have icy roads and black ice. As the precipitation cloud band moves southward from the afternoon, the full moon of Jeongwol Daeboreum is expected to be visible through the clouds, mainly in the central region.
The daytime high temperatures are forecasted to be between 2 and 12 degrees Celsius, with morning lows on the 13th ranging from minus 11 to minus 1 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs between 3 and 9 degrees Celsius. Temperatures will remain similar to the average for this time of year (morning lows between minus 9 and 1 degrees Celsius, daytime highs between 4 and 10 degrees Celsius). However, from the afternoon, cold air will move southward from the northwest, causing morning temperatures on the 13th to drop to around minus 10 degrees Celsius mainly in the central inland areas (around minus 15 degrees Celsius in some inland and mountainous Gangwon areas), and below minus 5 degrees Celsius in most other regions nationwide.
