Hongseong County Public Health Center Expands Support for Maternal and Newborn Health Care

The Hongseong County Public Health Center announced on the 12th that it will expand its support program for maternal and newborn health management to assist mothers in healthy postpartum recovery, support newborn care, and alleviate the financial burden on families with new births.

The maternal and newborn health management support program is a government voucher service in which professionally trained maternal and newborn health managers visit families to help mothers recover their health and provide care for newborns as well as older children.

The program is available to families residing in Hongseong County with a median income of 150% or less. If the mother has been a registered resident of Hongseong County for at least six months as of the baby's birth date, up to 90% of the out-of-pocket expenses will be covered. For families with multiple births, the support period is extended to a maximum of eight weeks.

For those exceeding 150% of the median income, the support period has been extended to up to two weeks. In addition, if there are siblings under the age of 18 besides the newborn, the program now offers care services for older children to help reduce the childcare burden.

The application period has also been extended from within 30 days of childbirth to within 60 days, and the voucher validity period has been increased from within 60 days of childbirth to within 90 days. Applications can be submitted by visiting the public health center or online via the Bokjiro website.

Im Hyunyoung, head of the Health Promotion Division, said, "By expanding support for maternal and newborn health management, we aim to reduce the economic and psychological burden on families with new births and create a safer childbirth environment."

Meanwhile, the number of newborns in Hongseong County last year increased by 19.5% compared to 2023, reaching 464. Of these, 350 mothers and newborns used the health management service, meaning over 75% of eligible families benefited from the program.
