Three Next-Generation Refrigerant Products Obtain R-Number Certification from U.S. Association
"Can Be Installed in All Vehicles... Especially Optimized for Electric Vehicles"
"Secured Refrigerant Technology Through Thermal Management R&D Capabilities"
SK Enmove has developed vehicle refrigerants that improve heating and cooling efficiency and comply with environmental regulations, receiving certification from an international association. This is the result of a collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group last year to develop next-generation refrigerants.
On the 10th (local time), SK Enmove announced that two next-generation refrigerant products it independently developed obtained the R-number, an international refrigerant certification, from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The R-number is a certification granted by ASHRAE, a globally recognized authority, after comprehensive evaluation of safety and efficiency. SK Enmove had already obtained the R-number for one refrigerant product in June last year, bringing the total to three internationally certified products.

Earlier, in January last year, SK Enmove signed a business agreement with Hyundai Motor Group to develop next-generation vehicle refrigerants that improve heating and cooling performance by more than 30%. The three refrigerant products developed during this process have obtained the R-number certification. A representative from SK Enmove stated, "The refrigerant products that received the R-number certification this time are next-generation refrigerants that can be installed in all vehicle air conditioning systems," adding, "They were specially developed for electric vehicles, which require refrigerants capable of both heating and cooling, as they do not generate engine waste heat unlike internal combustion engines."
SK Enmove conducted performance evaluations of the next-generation refrigerant products under the same conditions as currently commercialized electric vehicle air conditioning systems. The results showed that the efficiency of the 'heat pump,' a core component of electric vehicle thermal management, was improved, which can enhance energy efficiency. SK Enmove also announced that these products comply with global environmental regulatory standards. The innovation and manufacturing methods currently enforced in the United States stipulate a phased reduction in the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and these products meet those standards.
Kim Won-ki, President of SK Enmove, said, "Based on over 10 years of accumulated thermal management research and development capabilities, including electric vehicle lubricants and immersion cooling fluids, we quickly secured refrigerant technology and achieved R-number certification," adding, "We will continue to strengthen our thermal management capabilities to solidify our position as a global leader in refrigerant technology and an energy efficiency company."
