‘Jayang 15 Beonga’ Designated as New Alley-type Shopping District
Benefits Include Use of Onnuri Gift Certificates and Participation in Various Support Programs
355 Meters Long, 5,441 Square Meters, 88 Stores... Revitalization Expected
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) newly designated the area around Jayang-ro 15-gil as ‘Jayang 15 Beonga Alley-type Shopping District (Merchant Association President Jang Gi-man)’ on the 20th of last month. This marks the birth of the third alley-type shopping district.
An ‘alley-type shopping district’ is a system that designates and supports areas within alley commercial zones that are not included in traditional markets or shopping districts but meet certain criteria. It helps stabilize the management of small business owners and self-employed individuals by revitalizing alley commercial zones.
The Jayang 15 Beonga Alley-type Shopping District covers the area around Jayang-ro 15-gil, with a total length of 355 meters and an area of 5,441 square meters. There are 88 stores operating on both sides of the 5 to 6-meter-wide road. It has long been a popular place for residents as it connects to the east gate of Jayang Traditional Market.
Since the 8th term of the elected government, the district has continuously strived to revitalize the local commercial area. They relaxed the store concentration criteria through ordinance amendments. Following the ‘Geonridan-gil Alley-type Shopping District’ last year, the ‘Jayang 15 Beonga Alley-type Shopping District’ was newly designated within two months. As a result, Gwangjin-gu now has a total of 10 registered markets: 7 traditional markets and 3 alley-type shopping districts.
Once designated as an alley-type shopping district, it receives benefits equivalent to those of traditional markets. Onnuri gift certificates can be used, and various support projects such as environmental improvement and business modernization can be participated in.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I sincerely congratulate the designation of the Jayang 15 Beonga Alley-type Shopping District. We expect it to serve as an opportunity to invigorate the local commercial area through synergy with the adjacent Jayang Traditional Market.” He added, “We will continue to actively support and communicate with merchants to revitalize traditional markets, which are the foundation of the local economy. We ask for the residents’ great interest and support.”
Gwangjin-gu to Support ‘Daily Learning Center Program’ with up to 4 Million KRW
Operating Expenses for Lifelong Education of 5 Institutions and Organizations Supported with 3 to 4 Million KRW Each
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is recruiting participants for the ‘Daily Learning Center Program Support Project,’ which supports residents’ lifelong learning.
A ‘Daily Learning Center’ is a designated learning space that utilizes idle spaces within the community as learning spaces, allowing residents to easily access learning close to their homes or workplaces.
The recruitment target is institutions and organizations that wish to use their idle time spaces as public learning spaces. Various facilities such as workshops, cafes, community spaces, cooperatives, and art galleries can participate.
Eligibility requires the ability to independently operate programs (securing space, recruiting learners, promoting the project, etc.), operate lifelong education programs at least once a week, and maintain continuous rental availability. Additionally, there must be no religious or political purposes, and at least 10% of the support amount must be self-funded.
The district will support approximately 3 million KRW in program operating expenses, including instructor fees, material costs, and promotion expenses, and will conduct lifelong learning performance sharing.
Institutions or organizations wishing to participate should submit the application form, space introduction, and program operation plan to the person in charge via email by the 18th. After review and evaluation, the selection results will be announced in April. For more details, please refer to the notice board on the Gwangjin-gu Office website or contact the Lifelong Education Division.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We have entered an era where lifelong learning and study are essential. Accordingly, the district will operate Daily Learning Centers that provide spaces and programs for lifelong learning, creating an environment where anyone can have the opportunity to learn throughout their lives.”
