The trial panel assigned to the case involving President Yoon Seok-yeol and former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, among others accused of rebellion, will not take on new cases for the time being.
According to the legal community on the 11th, the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Oh Min-seok) decided to suspend the assignment of new cases to the 25th Criminal Division (Presiding Judge Ji Gwi-yeon) following the allocation of President Yoon's case. However, the duration of the suspension has not been disclosed.
This measure is in accordance with the Supreme Court regulations that allow a trial panel to request suspension of new case assignments if concentrated trial proceedings are necessary.
The panel is handling the case of President Yoon, who was indicted while in custody on charges of leading a rebellion, as well as cases involving former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, Police Commissioner Cho Ji-ho, and former Seoul Police Commissioner Kim Bong-sik, all related to significant roles in the rebellion.
Additionally, the panel is responsible for cases involving former Commander of the Defense Security Command Noh Sang-won and former Colonel Kim Yong-gun, who served as the Military Police Commander of the 3rd Field Army Command.
Except for active-duty military personnel indicted in military courts, all individuals related to the rebellion charges who have been transferred to the Central District Court, including President Yoon, have been assigned to the same trial panel.
