The number of digital tourism resident cards issued in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myung Hyun-gwan) has surpassed 100,000.
According to the county on the 11th, as of the 9th, the number of digital tourism resident cards issued in Haenam-gun reached 101,700. This figure is 1.6 times the population of Haenam-gun (about 63,000 people).
The county was selected for the “Digital Tourism Resident Card” public contest project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, and began issuing the cards in June last year. Surpassing 100,000 in just seven months places Haenam-gun among the fastest issuers out of the 34 local governments participating in the project.
The digital tourism resident card is an honorary resident card that allows tourists visiting from outside the area to receive discounts at restaurants, experience centers, attractions, accommodations, and more. The tourism resident card can be issued through the official Korea Tourism Organization app, “Korea Travel Easy.” Only those residing outside the area are eligible to receive the card.
In the case of Haenam-gun, digital tourism resident card holders are offered discounts at 24 locations, including major tourist attractions such as Duryunsan Cable Car, Myeongnyang Marine Cable Car, as well as restaurants and accommodations.
Last year, the most visited tourist destination in Haenam using the tourism resident card was Duryunsan Cable Car, followed by Myeongnyang Marine Cable Car, Ttangkkeut Marine Natural History Museum, Haenam Sweet Potato Bread Financier, and Forest Arboretum.
Governor Myung Hyun-gwan stated, “The digital tourism resident card is expected to have a significant impact on revitalizing the local economy by attracting tourists and increasing the living population,” and added, “We will continue to expand participating discount businesses and organize various events for cardholders to actively promote Haenam’s tourism resources.”
