BH E&I announced on the 11th through a public disclosure that it has signed a total of two supply contracts with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) for auxiliary equipment (BOP, Balance of Plant) of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 nuclear power plants. The total contract amount is 100.1 billion KRW, with contract periods ending on June 30, 2029, and July 31, 2029, respectively.
Previously, BH E&I received an Advance To Proceed (ATP) order last year from KHNP for containment building steel plates (CLP) and stainless steel liners (SSLW) for Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4. An ATP is a document issued by the client to the supplier requesting work to begin before the contract is officially effective, due to business needs such as meeting delivery deadlines.
BOP refers to all auxiliary facilities within a nuclear power plant excluding main equipment such as the reactor, steam generator, and turbine generator. BOP items are classified according to quality grades. Representative BOP items such as CLP and SSLW are classified as the highest quality grade items. CLP is a special steel plate installed on the inner wall of the nuclear power plant containment building, serving to prevent the leakage of radioactive materials. SSLW is a key steel structural component of the reservoir used during the storage and reloading process of spent nuclear fuel within the plant.
BH E&I has established a quality assurance system capable of meeting the highest quality requirements demanded by nuclear power plants. It is recognized as a qualified registered supplier by KHNP for various auxiliary equipment items. Additionally, it holds export achievements not only in the domestic market but also in overseas nuclear power plant markets.
Since nuclear power plant BOP equipment is typically ordered in stages over multiple years, BH E&I plans to focus on securing additional BOP orders this year for Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4, including condensers, feedwater heaters, and deaerators.
A BH E&I official stated, “Our company possesses design and manufacturing technologies that satisfy the high-quality standards required by nuclear power plants. Based on this achievement, we will do our best to succeed not only in additional items for Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 scheduled for bidding this year but also in securing overseas nuclear power plant orders.”
