"Rising Proportion of Young People Distrust the Constitutional Court"
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon emphasized that the Constitutional Court is causing public distrust and that procedural legitimacy must be upheld.
On the 11th, Mayor Oh stated on Facebook, "The proportion of young people who do not trust the Constitutional Court is steadily increasing."
Mayor Oh said, "There must not be even the smallest speck of procedural legitimacy missing in the Constitutional Court's presidential impeachment trial," adding, "Only by adhering to due process can the public accept and comply with the conclusion."
He then assessed that the Constitutional Court is currently causing public distrust. He criticized, "The Democratic Party of Korea unilaterally forced a vote in the National Assembly without even knowing the quorum for the impeachment vote against Acting President Han Deok-su," and added, "Given this situation, the Constitutional Court should rightfully first determine the validity of the National Assembly's quorum approval for the impeachment of Acting President Han, but in reality, it hastened to decide on the suspension of the nomination of Ma Eun-hyuk as a Constitutional Court justice candidate, thereby causing public distrust."
Mayor Oh continued, "There is controversy over the evidentiary validity of the 'prosecutor's statements' of key witnesses, yet the Constitutional Court claims that these can be used as evidence in the impeachment trial," and said, "It is deeply concerning why the Constitutional Court, which should be the guardian of due process, is causing such controversy."
Mayor Oh stated, "If procedural legitimacy and fairness are lost, the result will be severe national division," and urged, "The Constitutional Court must seriously recognize this situation."
