A preceptor nurse is a nurse who supports the adaptation of new nurses in clinical settings and provides education. They guide new nurses on how to handle various situations they encounter for the first time while caring for patients and teach work methods in advance to help them adapt early and become excellent nurses.

Kim Beop-jong, Director of the Radiation Hospital, said in his welcoming remarks, “Preceptor nurses have a significant impact on the stable and efficient adaptation of new nurses to their duties. I understand that the role you play, as the first step for outstanding nursing personnel, carries great responsibility and requires much effort. I hope you take pride in shaping the future of the hospital, and we will actively support and encourage the activities of preceptor nursing.”

The workshop held on the 7th was conducted for 23 preceptor nurses. The Nursing Department provided an overview lecture on the new nurse education system and the roles and strategies of preceptors, followed by practical training from experts in various fields within the hospital. In particular, to strengthen preceptor competencies, a prior educational needs survey was conducted, and practical training was carried out based on the selected topics.

On that day, to prevent safety accidents, Kim Yoon-hwa, head of the Medical Quality Management Team, gave a lecture on 'Strategies for Preventing Safety Accidents in New Nurses,' and Choi Yoon-hee, head of the Hematology-Oncology Department, conducted a lecture on 'Anticancer Chemotherapy (Targeted Therapy).' Additionally, Kim Jung-soo, head of the Neurosurgery Department, gave a lecture on 'Understanding Imaging Tests (Head),' and Kim Jae-hyun, head of the Thoracic Surgery Department, lectured on 'Understanding Imaging Tests (Chest),' which was evaluated as reinforcing professional practical training related to cancer patient treatment and examinations.

Kim, a preceptor nurse who attended the workshop, said, “I appreciated the time exchanging various opinions with the education coordinators during the program, and it was very helpful to hear detailed professional explanations directly from specialists.”

Jang Hee-soon, head of the Nursing Department, said, “I hope this workshop provided an opportunity for preceptor nurses to reflect on and grow in their roles as educators, pride, and sense of mission. Despite the increasing number of critically ill patients and high bed occupancy rates leading to heavier workloads, I thank the preceptor nurses for their dedication in helping new nurses adapt to their duties and faithfully fulfilling their roles as mentors. We will strive to support preceptor nurses through various educational programs and improve the quality of nursing education by expanding the role of education-dedicated nurses.”
