Three-Story Parking Tower to Be Built to Resolve Chronic Parking Shortages
Completion Scheduled for December
The National Busan Science Museum (Director Song Sam-jong) is embarking on the construction of a parking tower starting from the 11th to alleviate the recurring parking difficulties experienced on weekends and public holidays, in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
The parking tower will be built with a total floor area of 6,676.92㎡ and will have three floors above ground, providing a total of 255 parking spaces. Excluding the existing 76 parking spaces within the current parking lot, the actual increase in parking spaces will be 179, resulting in a total of 595 parking spaces. The project budget is 10 billion KRW, with completion targeted for December.
Currently, the science museum has 416 parking spaces, which are fully occupied on weekends and public holidays, causing significant inconvenience to visitors.
The National Busan Science Museum decided to build the parking tower within the existing parking lot and began construction on January 27. From the 11th, full-scale construction including structural demolition will proceed, and vehicle access will be restricted in some areas accordingly.
Hwang Seung-jun, head of the Facility Safety Center at the National Busan Science Museum, stated, “We expect that the construction of this parking tower will greatly alleviate complaints and inconveniences caused by parking difficulties. We will do our best to minimize visitor inconvenience by securing temporary parking lots and deploying parking guidance personnel during the construction period.”
In celebration of its 10th anniversary in 2025, the National Busan Science Museum is undertaking various facility improvement projects including the renovation of the Saessak Nuri Hall and Permanent Exhibition Hall 1, the construction of the parking tower, and the expansion of the food court. Accordingly, thorough measures are being taken to prevent and manage safety accidents involving visitors and staff.
