Shigeru Ishiba's approval rating for the Japanese Cabinet recorded in the mid-40% range in a survey conducted immediately after the US-Japan summit, showing an increase of more than 5 percentage points compared to the previous month.
According to Yonhap News and NHK on the 10th, a telephone poll conducted from the 7th to the 9th with 1,212 respondents showed that the approval rating for the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Ishiba rose 5 percentage points from the previous month to 44%. On the other hand, the percentage of people who do not support the Ishiba Cabinet fell 5 percentage points to 35%.
The approval rating for the Ishiba Cabinet has been on the rise for two consecutive months, slightly increasing from 38% in December last year to 39% last month. In particular, this survey is interpreted as reflecting the outcomes of the US-Japan summit held at the White House on the 7th (local time).
Prime Minister Ishiba was evaluated to have performed well by presenting cards such as increased investment in the US and expanded imports of US liquefied natural gas (LNG), thereby avoiding demands for US tariffs and increased defense costs. Additionally, the policy of strengthening the US-Japan alliance and security cooperation was reaffirmed. Notably, he attracted attention by gifting President Trump a golden samurai helmet.
