Gokseong County in Jeonnam announced on the 10th that 30 high school students from the Gokseong area departed for a three-week language training program in Sydney, Australia on the 9th.

The county has been providing overseas training opportunities since 2012 with the goal of fostering global talent, but temporarily suspended the program after the outbreak of COVID-19. Starting this year, the county has resumed overseas language training through the Gokseong Future Education Foundation, with 30 prospective high school students from the region participating.

The language program will run for a total of three weeks. For two weeks, students will experience Australian culture and interact with locals through homestays, while also attending language classes to improve their English skills. After class, they will participate in various activities and cultural experiences, such as attending an opera house orchestra performance, to develop a global mindset.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to discuss career concerns in a special lecture by Professor Guk Sanghun from the University of New South Wales, who is originally from Gokseong. During the final week, students will stay in the dormitory of St. Paul International School and attend regular classes with local students.

A county official stated, "We expect that through this opportunity, participating students will not only gain confidence in English but also grow into enterprising and ambitious global leaders through diverse overseas cultural experiences."

Meanwhile, Gokseong County established the Gokseong Future Education Foundation in 2020 to create an educational ecosystem unique to Gokseong and has been contributing an annual budget of 5 billion KRW.
