"A Serious Crime That Denies the Rule of Law"
The prosecution announced on the 10th that it has indicted 63 people involved in the violent incident at the Seoul Western District Court and detained 62 of them.
The dedicated team of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Deputy Chief Prosecutor Shin Dong-won) indicted 62 people in detention and one person without detention for the illegal violent occupation of the Western District Court on the 18th and 19th of last month. Additionally, investigations are ongoing for eight more individuals who were recently detained.
They are accused of forcibly opening the back gate of the court or trespassing into the court premises by climbing over the court fence upon learning of President Yoon Seok-yeol's detention. Some of them entered the court building, damaging various fixtures and even invading judges' chambers.
A prosecution official stated, "This incident is a serious crime that completely denies the rule of law and the judicial system," adding, "We will do our utmost to maintain the prosecution so that the defendants receive sentences commensurate with their crimes, and we will strictly investigate other related individuals in cooperation with the police."
