Uljin-gun Quickly Resolves Crisis Households... Emergency Welfare Support System Implemented

Gyeongbuk’s First Specialized Welfare Service
Unique “Uljin-type Emergency Welfare Support System” Launched

Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, has implemented the region’s first specialized “Uljin-type Emergency Welfare Support System” since January, targeting residents facing severe difficulties in their daily lives.

Emergency welfare support is a system that provides temporary emergency assistance to households in crisis situations, such as loss of income due to the main earner’s unemployment or severe illness, making it difficult to maintain their livelihood, helping them quickly overcome urgent situations.

Although the support criteria for the emergency welfare support system, which started in December 2005, have been expanded annually, cases of ineligibility due to exceeding the criteria still occur. Accordingly, from 2025, Uljin-gun has expanded the criteria for the first time in Gyeongbuk Province and implemented the “Uljin-type Emergency Welfare Support System.”

While the government’s emergency support standard median income is 75%, the Uljin-type system has expanded this to 100%, increasing the monthly income standard for a single-person household from 1.79 million KRW to 2.39 million KRW, and financial assets from 8.39 million KRW to 12.39 million KRW.

Under the government’s emergency system criteria, some unfortunate cases were unable to receive support, but thanks to the expanded Uljin-type emergency welfare support, as of February, two residents have received medical support of up to 3 million KRW.

Uljin residents in need of emergency welfare assistance can visit the Welfare Policy Division of Uljin-gun Office or the nearest eup/myeon office, or apply after consultation by phone.

County Governor Son Byung-bok stated, “Through the emergency welfare support system, we expect to help residents overcome economic difficulties and live healthy and stable lives, thereby eliminating welfare blind spots. We will continue to do our best so that all residents can live safe and happy lives.”
