Ulsan City to Increase Taxi Fares Starting March 10

Minimizing the Burden on Citizens...
Only the Base Fare Raised by 500 Won to 4,500 Won

From March 10, the base fare for medium-sized taxis in the Ulsan area will increase by 500 won, from the current 4,000 won to 4,500 won.

Last year, Ulsan City conducted a taxi fare and rate calculation service to decide whether to raise taxi fares. The service results estimated the base fare at 4,606 won, making a fare increase inevitable.

Accordingly, Ulsan City made this decision after consulting the Public Transportation Improvement Committee and the City Council, and through deliberation and resolution by the Price Countermeasure Committee.

Ulsan City to Increase Taxi Fares Starting March 10 Adjustment details.

This fare adjustment comes about two years after the last change in January 2023, raising only the base fare?which was the lowest among the seven special and metropolitan cities?from 4,000 won to 4,500 won to minimize the burden on citizens.

Other charges such as distance/time fares and late-night surcharges will remain unchanged.

According to the adjustment rate, based on last year’s service results, when Ulsan citizens travel the average single trip distance of 5.3 km by taxi, the fare will increase by 7.5%, from 8,036 won to 8,642 won.

Going forward, Ulsan City plans to notify operators of the taxi fare and rate decisions and receive and approve fare change reports from operators.

An official from Ulsan City stated, “This taxi fare increase was made to improve the management of the taxi industry and the treatment of transportation workers. We will complete active prior publicity and fare meter adjustment work as soon as possible to minimize inconvenience to citizens, and since the fare increase raises the burden on citizens, we will strive to make taxi use safer and more convenient.”

Ulsan City reviews whether to adjust taxi fares and rates every two years to ensure that transportation costs are properly reflected, in accordance with the ‘Guidelines for Adjusting Passenger Car Transportation Business Fares and Rates.’
