Daejeon City Council Opens 284th Extraordinary Session... Reviews Ordinances and More

The Daejeon City Council announced that it opened the 284th extraordinary session on the 10th and will proceed with its legislative schedule until the 20th.


During this session, the council plans to handle a total of 95 agenda items, including 26 bills proposed by council members, 64 submitted by the mayor, and 5 by the superintendent of education.


Additionally, the council will listen to the 2025 business reports from Daejeon City and the Office of Education, seeking various opinions and policy measures to improve citizens' quality of life and advance future education.


The council will also conduct a thorough review of the first supplementary budget proposal submitted by Daejeon City to ensure that funds are allocated appropriately.


At the first plenary session, council member Kim Minsook questioned the superintendent of education regarding the current status and improvement plans for the free school uniform support project, as well as the introduction and future plans for AI digital textbooks.


In addition, the council passed a resolution proposed by Lee Geumseon urging an increase in childcare fees to create a higher quality childcare environment. The resolution calls on the government to increase the childcare fee in the 2025 supplementary budget to improve the treatment of childcare teachers and establish a better childcare environment.


During the subsequent five-minute speeches, council member Jeong Myeongguk addressed 'Support Measures for Nail and Foot Hygiene Management for Vulnerable Seniors'; Hwang Kyunga emphasized 'The Importance of Overseas Business Trips for City Council Members'; Lee Hanyeong called for 'Measures to Revitalize the Dunsan Prehistoric Site and Address Vacancies in Aging Public Rental Housing'; Lee Byeongcheol urged 'Support Policies for Heating-Vulnerable Groups'; and Song Hwalseop highlighted 'Daejeon City's Energy Self-Sufficiency Issues and Solutions.'


Chairman Cho Wonhui stated, "The essence of the council is to protect citizens' lives and listen to even the smallest voices," adding, "Through the supplementary budget, we will support tailored funding for small business owners and the self-employed to overcome crises, and launch a Special Committee on Livelihood Economy to revitalize the local economy at the council level."
