Yeongyang-gun, Free Collection and Disposal of Fruit Tree Pruning Branches and Chili Pepper Stalks

Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, is continuing the 'Safe Disposal Support Project for Agricultural By-products' this year as well, to prevent forest fires, reduce fine dust, and prevent the spread of pests.

The annual amount of agricultural by-products generated in the area is estimated to be around 5,000 tons. Last year, a pilot shredding support team operated, shredding approximately 1,600 tons over 155 hectares, partially resolving various pollution issues such as illegal burning or dumping in the mountains.

Starting this year, to make it easier and more convenient for farmers to receive support, the Agricultural Technology Center will directly contract related companies for services, and agricultural by-products will be collected through phone applications.

In the first half of the year, pruning branches from fruit trees will be processed, and in the second half, chili pepper by-products will be handled, with a total of two collection rounds. The application period for the first round (fruit tree pruning branches) is from February 3 to 21, and the second round (chili pepper stalks) will be accepted in September. The plan is to collect all fruit tree and chili pepper by-products throughout Yeongyang-gun.

Farmers who wish to have their agricultural by-products processed can apply by phone to the Crop Protection Team at the Agricultural Technology Center.

County Governor O Do-chang stated, “We will thoroughly improve the system based on the trial and error experienced during last year’s pilot operation, and from this year onward, we will ensure that farmers receive more benefits through the improved system.”
