The Small and Medium Business Ombudsman improved over 2,200 cases of corporate regulatory difficulties, an increase of 76 percentage points compared to the previous year.

Last year, the Small and Medium Business Ombudsman identified more than 5,200 unreasonable corporate regulatory difficulties, processed over 5,100 of them, and improved more than 2,200 cases. Compared to the previous year, these figures represent increases of 43.3 percentage points, 43.5 percentage points, and 76.2 percentage points, respectively.
Last year, the Small and Medium Business Ombudsman continuously discovered and addressed regulatory difficulties faced by small and medium enterprises and small business owners on-site, while also selecting specific themes to intensively identify and improve regulatory difficulties through top-down and bottom-up approaches.
First, 33 important livelihood regulations by industry and business type faced by small business owners were improved, including reducing the food hygiene refresher training hours for cooks and nutritionists (from 6 hours to 3 hours), easing the burden of hiring technical managers for waste disposal facilities at small-scale livestock farms, and relaxing the aircraft ownership requirements for specialized aviation maintenance training institutions (from 3 aircraft to 2).

In local regulations related to location and construction, which are directly connected to business activities and incur costs, 36 tasks across three major areas?reducing river and small stream occupancy fees, rationalizing regulations on the use of public property, and making factory construction burden regulations more realistic?were collectively revised, covering a total of 1,797 local ordinances.
Additionally, to resolve urgent on-site regulations demanded by the small and medium business community, the Ombudsman actively participated in inter-governmental collaboration processes, achieving outcomes such as easing the establishment standards for small and medium business cooperatives and resolving overlapping environmental certifications for toilet paper.
Ombudsman Choi Seung-jae emphasized, "This year as well, we will do our best to meticulously identify and resolve even the smallest regulatory difficulties and grievances faced by businesses," adding, "We will uphold the essence and purpose of the Ombudsman system and strengthen cooperation with local governments, public institutions, collaborative organizations, and business associations in the spirit of Saseokwiho (射石爲虎)."
