Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) will expand the special supply quota for soldiers within the public sale housing special supply starting this year.
GH announced on the 10th that from the Pyeongtaek Godeok A4 Block sale housing (a total of 517 households) to be sold in the first half of this year, it will increase the special supply for soldiers targeting areas with a high proportion of military service and regions adjacent to military facilities.
The special supply for soldiers is aimed at soldiers who have served for more than 10 years and long-term discharged soldiers according to the "Regulations on Housing Supply," and the specific expansion ratio will be confirmed through the resident recruitment announcement for each project district.
GH explained that this measure is part of efforts to improve the quality of life for soldiers by providing a stable residential environment amid growing calls to improve the poor treatment of professional soldiers, such as low salary levels and homeownership rates.
Kim Se-yong, President of GH, said, "Supporting housing stability for soldiers who have dedicated themselves to the nation and its people is a core responsibility of the state," adding, "We expect that the expansion of the special supply quota for soldiers will serve as an opportunity to improve the treatment of professional soldiers and realize social respect for their dedication."
Meanwhile, as of 2022, the homeownership rate of professional soldiers who have served more than 10 years was 42.2%, which is even lower than the homeownership rate of the lower-income population (45.8%). This means that 6 out of 10 professional soldiers are without homes.
