Yongin City Selected for Living and School Sports Support Project... Secures 490 Million KRW in National Funding

The city was selected for two projects in this competition: ▲Support for regional autonomous living sports activities (434 million KRW) and ▲Support for opening school sports facilities to residents (62 million KRW). The city plans to operate the projects by investing a total of 781 million KRW, including 285 million KRW of city funds added to the secured national funding.

The regional autonomous living sports activity support project is designed to support living sports activities suitable for regional characteristics. The city plans to operate the 'Yongin Special City Living Sports Rowing Experience Class' monthly for citizens by utilizing the rowing stadium, which is the only one in the metropolitan area. In particular, the city plans to foster rowing as a regionally specialized living sport by holding a living sports rowing competition within the year.

The school sports facility resident opening support project is aimed at opening school sports facilities near residential areas with good accessibility for local residents to use. Previously, the city signed agreements with 30 schools on December 2023 to open school sports facilities. Participating schools are supported with operating expenses ranging from 2.5 million to 3.5 million KRW per school based on performance, with the condition of opening at least three weekdays and one weekend day. With this selection, the city plans to sign additional agreements with three schools this month and expand participating schools through additional applications.

A city official said, "We will continue to discover regionally specialized living sports so that citizens can enjoy various sports," adding, "We will also continuously support sports activities using school sports facilities."
