Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong), in collaboration with the Korea International Trade Association, is promoting the 3rd public-private partnership open innovation project, ‘Embracing Gangnam Digital,’ and is recruiting participating companies until the 28th of this month.

Gangnam-gu Calls for Innovative Companies to Build Smart City... Up to 20 Million KRW Support Last June, Jo Seong-myeong, the mayor of Gangnam-gu, participated in the event "Embracing Gangnam Digital." Provided by Gangnam-gu.

‘Embracing Gangnam Digital’ is a project that discovers innovative ideas and smart technologies from companies, provides opportunities for demonstration in Gangnam-gu, and implements them in actual administration. The goal is to build a smart city and enhance convenience in daily life by applying the latest digital technologies to all areas related to residents’ lives, including safety, transportation, welfare, and environment.

Since 2023, the district has proactively introduced the concept of open innovation led by private companies into administration, demonstrating AI-based technologies such as flood monitoring systems, smart public parking systems, and school zone pedestrian safety systems in real life.

Based on these achievements, Gangnam-gu was selected as the Best City at the 2023 Barcelona ‘World Smart City Awards’ and was recognized as an excellent domestic city at the 2024 ‘World Smart City Expo Awards,’ solidifying its status as a smart city.

This year, the district continues the public contest to collaborate with various companies. It plans to recruit companies with smart technologies and ideas that can be applied across all administrative fields, including administration and civil affairs, safety and disaster, transportation, welfare and daily life, energy and environment, and tourism, and select a total of eight companies.

The selected companies will receive up to 20 million KRW in demonstration subsidies, along with opportunities for administrative demonstration, support for consultations with related organizations, and promotional and marketing opportunities such as participation in exhibitions. Applications can be submitted through the InnovBranch website by the 28th of this month. For more details, please contact the Korea International Trade Association.

District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, “Gangnam-gu, with its excellent urban infrastructure, is a sought-after testbed for companies,” and added, “We hope that companies with innovative technologies will create a global smart city model together with Gangnam-gu.”
