Choi Min-jeong became the first-ever gold medalist in the women's 500m at the Winter Asian Games.

On the 8th, Choi Min-jeong took the lead from the start and maintained it until the end in the women's 500m short track event at the 2025 Harbin Winter Asian Games held at the Heilongjiang Ice Training Center Multipurpose Hall in Harbin, China. Kim Gil-ri, who previously won gold in the 1500m, took silver, and Lee So-yeon won bronze.

Choi Min-jeong ended China's dream of winning eight consecutive gold medals since the 1990 Sapporo Games and brought Korea its first-ever gold medal in the women's 500m at the Winter Asian Games.

A fierce competition with China was expected, but unexpectedly, only one Chinese athlete, Wang Xinnan, reached the final. Pan Kexin and Zhang Chutong were both eliminated in the semifinals and did not advance to the final.
