Reasons Behind South Africa's Racially Discriminatory Land Expropriation Law
Aims to "Rescind Policies Restricting the Right to Carry and Possess Firearms"
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on the 7th (local time) to suspend aid or support to South Africa. This was due to the South African government's land expropriation policy being considered racially discriminatory land seizure.
On the same day, in the executive order released by the White House, President Trump stated, "Recently, the South African government enacted a law allowing the expropriation of agricultural real estate owned by the minority Afrikaners (a group of Dutch settlers who migrated to South Africa in the 17th century)," and criticized it as "(this law is) hateful rhetoric and government action that incites disproportionate violence."
He also pointed out, "South Africa has taken an aggressive stance against the United States and its allies by filing a genocide complaint against Israel, not Hamas, at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and by activating commercial, military, and nuclear-enhancing relations with Iran."
President Trump instructed the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security to implement measures to assist Afrikaners in South Africa who are victims of unjust racial discrimination with entry and settlement in the United States.
Earlier, on the 2nd, President Trump criticized South Africa's land expropriation policy as "land seizure that treats a certain class very badly," hinting at suspending support to South Africa. In response, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, in his annual state of the nation address on the 6th, described President Trump's actions as "harassment" and declared that they "will not be intimidated or discouraged."
On the same day, President Trump also issued an executive order to review gun control policies implemented during the Joe Biden administration. The executive order aims to review and potentially rescind all policies and measures that restrict the right to carry and possess firearms as stipulated in the Second Amendment.
Furthermore, President Trump signed an executive order to establish a Faith Office at the White House.
