Gwangju and the entire Jeonnam and Jeonbuk regions have been experiencing heavy snowfall for five consecutive days.


According to the Gwangju Meteorological Administration, as of 1 p.m. on the 7th, heavy snow advisories have been issued for Gwangju and 19 cities and counties in Jeonnam (Naju, Damyang, Gokseong, Gurye, Jangseong, Hwasun, Boseong, Gwangyang, Suncheon, Jangheung, Gangjin, Haenam, Yeongam, Muan, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Mokpo, Shinan, Jindo), as well as 8 cities and counties in Jeonbuk (Gunsan, Wanju, Jinan, Muju, Jangsu, Imsil, Iksan, Namwon).


Six cities and counties in Jeonbuk (Gochang, Buan, Gimje, Sunchang, Jeongeup, Jeonju) have been upgraded to a heavy snow warning.


So far, the recorded snowfall amounts are 13.4 cm at Sangmu Base in Jangseong, Jeonnam, 12.7 cm in Yeonggwang, 10.5 cm in Damyang, 10.4 cm in Hampyeong, 10.1 cm in Muan, 9.0 cm in Naju, and 8.3 cm in Gwangsan, Gwangju.


In Jeonbuk, snowfall has reached 14.5 cm in Jeonju, 15 cm in Gochang, 14.2 cm in Jinan, 14.2 cm in Jeongeup, 13.5 cm in Imsil, 12.6 cm in Buan, and 8.5 cm in Iksan.

Since the 3rd, Gwangju has received 32 reports, including 20 cases of falls, 4 traffic accidents, 4 icicle removals, and 4 icy road safety measures. In Jeonnam, authorities responded to 31 incidents, such as vehicles slipping on snowy roads and overturning down slopes.


Gwangju and the Jeonnam and Jeonbuk regions are expected to see heavy snowfall at a rate of 3 to 5 cm per hour until the night of the 8th.


The expected snowfall is 5 to 20 cm for Gwangju and Jeonnam, and 1 to 5 cm for the southeastern coast of Jeonnam. In Jeonbuk, 5 to 20 cm is expected by the 8th, with some areas receiving up to 25 cm.


An official from the Meteorological Administration stated, "Snow accumulation and icy roads are expected even on back roads, alleys, sloped roads, and shaded roads, so please pay extra attention to traffic and pedestrian safety."
