Yeosu City to Hold Jeongwol Daeboreum and Dangsan Rituals from 9th to 12th

Finding Traditional Village Gut: "Jwinjwinmunyeoso" Event and More

Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jung Kimyung) announced on the 7th that it will be holding a series of Jeongwol Daeboreum and Dangsan Ritual events from the 9th to the 12th to pray for abundance and peace in the villages.


On the 9th, the 29th "Finding the Forgotten Village Gut: Jwinjwinmunyeoso" event will take place in Banwol Village, Yulchon-myeon, hosted by the Nori Troupe Beoksugol. This event, which revives the Jeongwol Daeboreum gut, will also include burning a daljip (moon house), releasing sky lanterns, jwibulnori (fire-spinning), and sharing tteokguk (rice cake soup).

On the 10th, from Ssangbong-dong Community Center to the Hangho Village area, the Ssangbong-dong Dangsan Preservation Association will host the "Dangsan Ritual" and "Jisinbalgi" events, with about 50 participants including a farmers' music troupe.


On the 12th, the following events are scheduled: the "Sanshinje" at Goraksan praying for peace and abundance in the new year; a ritual and traditional seasonal games reenactment in Samildong Homyeong Village to pray for a bountiful harvest and safety in the industrial complex; the "Moonlight Journey with Gasari" in Hyeoncheon 3-gu, Sora-myeon; and traditional nongak and folk games at the octagonal pavilion area in Changchon Village, Myododong.


A city official said, "This event is an opportunity to introduce our unique and disappearing culture to future generations," and added, "We hope it will become a true place of harmony where all generations can come together, enjoy, and communicate."
