Korea Forest Service Announces Recruitment of Participants for 'Social Contribution-Type Forest Carbon Offset' Program

The Korea Forest Service announced on the 7th that it is recruiting businesses to participate in this year's 'Social Contribution-type Forest Carbon Offset Program' support project.

The support is promoted to reduce the administrative burden on institutions carrying out forest carbon offset projects and to encourage effective carbon reduction activities.

The forest carbon offset system allows individual forest owners, public institutions, private organizations, and companies to receive carbon credits in exchange for contributing to greenhouse gas reduction through activities such as new afforestation, forest management improvement, and forest protection, which can then be traded or used as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

Starting this year, the Korea Forest Service will subdivide the project proposal fields into ▲Absorption ▲Storage & Reduction ▲Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for support.

The absorption field includes new and reforestation, vegetation restoration, species renewal, and afforestation of wildfire-damaged areas. The storage & reduction field covers the use of wood products and forest biomass, while the ICT field includes vegetation restoration and new/reforestation projects utilizing drones and LiDAR.

Businesses selected as support project targets can receive administrative cost support necessary for preparing project proposals and monitoring and verification.

Businesses wishing to participate should prepare the required documents, including the project proposal, and submit them to the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute between the 7th and 24th of this month.

For more detailed information about the project, please visit the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute or the Forest Carbon Registry website.

Park Eun-sik, Director of the Forest Industry Policy Bureau at the Korea Forest Service, said, "The forest carbon offset project is meaningful and valuable in that forest owners and companies voluntarily participate to achieve both social contribution and carbon neutrality simultaneously. The Korea Forest Service will prepare various support measures for sustainable forest management to further activate the forest carbon offset project."
