On the morning of the 7th, Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, visited the Renault Korea Busan plant to devise measures to support the future car project.
The mayor's visit was essentially a gesture of ‘gift’ to support Renault Korea's future plans, including the production of the Polestar 4, while inspecting the electric vehicle production facilities.
Busan City explained that it plans to confirm Renault Korea's efforts, which is preparing to play a leading role in the global electric vehicle market as the first domestic automaker to convert an internal combustion engine plant into an electric vehicle plant, and discuss cooperation measures.
The Renault Korea Busan plant temporarily halted operations in January this year for equipment construction for mass production of electric vehicles and resumed operations in February. From the second half of the year, it will fully embark on mass production of the Polestar 4 electric vehicle and export completed vehicles to the Americas and other regions.
Based on this investment, if future car projects are attracted, large-scale investments at the headquarters level are expected.
On the same day, Mayor Park held talks with St?phane Deblaise, CEO of Renault Korea, listened to the company's investment difficulties, and planned to discuss regional reinvestment and cooperation measures.
He also planned to celebrate the successful sales of the Grand Koleos, the first work of Renault Korea’s ‘Aurora Project’ targeting the global market. This new product achieved sales of over 22,000 units in just four months. Mayor Park intended to discuss support measures for the successful launch of the follow-up models Aurora 2 and Aurora 3, and also review the progress of the Busan Eco Cluster, scheduled to be established by the end of this year.
Busan City is promoting various support measures, including customized on-site administrative support and the normal promotion of win-win cooperation projects, to help Renault Korea establish itself as a global future car industry hub.
The win-win cooperation projects between Busan City and Renault Korea are underway with a scale of 31.3 billion KRW for the export-led future car innovation growth technology support project and 12 billion KRW for the future car win-win cooperation core parts research and development support project.
Earlier, Mayor Park, serving as the first person in charge of Busan City's one-stop corporate support, accepted requests raised during his visit to Renault Korea last July and changed the name of a 2.4 km road section near the Busan plant from Renault Samsung-daero to Renault-daero (an honorary road).
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “Renault Korea is Busan’s proud top company, and the transition to electric vehicle production is an important opportunity to innovate the local economy and create new growth engines. Busan City will spare no support to provide the optimal environment for companies to grow and innovate, and will devote efforts to develop Busan into a global mobility hub city together with Renault Korea.”
Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun and other Busan city officials are touring the Renault Korea production line on the morning of the 7th.
