Heavy Snow Causes 13 Reports of Slips and Related Incidents in Chungnam

Due to the heavy snowfall that began on the afternoon of the 6th, numerous vehicles slipped on icy roads across Chungnam.


According to the Chungnam Fire Headquarters on the 7th, a total of 13 reports related to slips and other incidents caused by the heavy snow were received from 4 p.m. the previous day until 6 a.m. that morning.

At 7:56 p.m. the previous day, near the Yesan Junction on the Iksan-Pyeongtaek Expressway in Gwangsi-myeon, Yesan-gun, Chungnam, a passenger car driving on the road slipped on the icy surface and stopped, after which another passenger car driving behind collided with it. Earlier, around 7:11 p.m., another passenger car slipped on the icy road near the same junction.


Four people, including the drivers and passengers of the two cars, were transported to the hospital. The fire authorities reported that the injuries were minor.


At around 10:43 p.m. on the same day, in Inji-myeon, Seosan-si, authorities received a driver’s report stating, "The road is slippery and the car seems likely to get stuck," prompting emergency snow removal operations.


A fire department official explained, "Most of the reports were single-vehicle slip accidents and requests for urgent snow removal, but fortunately, there were no serious casualties."


According to the Daejeon Meteorological Office, as of 5 a.m. that day, the snowfall accumulation at major local points was 22.5 cm at Gyeryongsan, 9.0 cm at Jeonui, Sejong, 7.7 cm at Seocheon, 6.7 cm at Daesan, Seosan, 6.1 cm at Dangjin, 5.2 cm at Yanghwa, Buyeo, and 4.7 cm at Songak, Asan.
