Remodeling of Bulgab-myeon Welfare Center and Other Projects Progressing Smoothly
The regional revitalization project being promoted by Yeonggwang County, Jeollanam-do, is progressing smoothly.
Since last year, Yeonggwang County has been implementing a rural idle facility utilization regional revitalization project in Gunnam-myeon and Bulgab-myeon, with a total project cost of 950 million KRW, including 450 million KRW in national funds.
The "Rural Idle Facility Utilization Regional Revitalization Project" is a public offering project led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, which selects about ten regions each year and provides up to 225 million KRW per site.
This project aims to remodel idle facilities into spaces that provide care, education, and cultural services, thereby revitalizing rural areas. Yeonggwang County was selected twice for the public offering: Gunnam-myeon in 2024 and Bulgab-myeon in 2025.
The warehouse of the Gunnam-myeon office, built in the 1950s, is being remodeled and will be operated by a private business as a restaurant utilizing various local agricultural and marine products. The project is being promoted with the goal of completion this year.
Meanwhile, the Bulgab-myeon Welfare Center, which used to run community center programs, saw a significant drop in usage due to the aging of the building. The county plans to determine its new use through a detailed design service this year, with the goal of completing the project by 2026.
Jang Seil, Governor of Yeonggwang County, stated, "Through this project, we will do our best to breathe new life into rural areas by transforming places filled with history and memories into new spaces that revive the past while equipping them with modern functions."
