Boryeong Ranks 5th Nationwide in Traffic Culture Index Among Local Governments with Population Under 300,000

Compliance with Traffic Laws by Drivers and Pedestrians Higher Than Other Local Governments

Boryeong Ranks 5th Nationwide in Traffic Culture Index Among Local Governments with Population Under 300,000

Boryeong City, Chungnam Province, announced on the 6th that it ranked 5th among 49 local governments with a population of less than 300,000 nationwide, receiving an A grade (86.75 points) in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "2024 Traffic Culture Index Survey."

The Traffic Culture Index is a representative indicator of regional traffic culture awareness. It is an objective annual survey conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on 229 basic local governments nationwide, comparing and evaluating the level of traffic culture among municipalities based on driving behavior, traffic safety, pedestrian behavior, and more.

The city reported that the compliance rate with traffic laws by drivers and pedestrians was higher than in other local governments. In particular, it received high marks in the implementation of traffic safety policies, such as the operation of vehicle restriction facilities on the Daecheoncheon Riverside Road and improvements to traffic safety facilities in 2024.

The city has made efforts to prevent traffic accidents and reduce traffic fatalities by installing traffic signals and unmanned enforcement equipment, improving facilities in school zones, conducting traffic accident prevention campaigns, providing traffic safety education for vulnerable groups, and supporting voluntary license returns for elderly drivers.

Last year, the city established ordinances on the installation and management of bus stops, support for free parking lot openings, and towing of illegally parked vehicles, thereby creating an institutional foundation for expanding traffic facilities and preventing traffic accidents.

A city official said, "Achieving an A grade in the Traffic Culture Index was possible thanks to the mature traffic culture awareness of Boryeong citizens and the active support of collaborative organizations and groups such as the Boryeong Police Station and the Model Drivers Association. We will continue to do our utmost to create an even safer traffic environment, striving to become the nation's top city for traffic safety where citizens can travel with peace of mind."
