Kakao Mobility is fulfilling the platform's social responsibility in the environmental sector through the introduction of paperless taxi fare automatic payment, Kakao T Bike, and employee volunteer activities, striving for a green mobility transition.

Kakao T Taxi launched the first automatic payment service in the taxi industry in October 2018. Since then, usage records have replaced the role previously served by paper receipts. Thanks to this, Kakao T Taxi passengers no longer need to issue paper receipts to check their usage history, reducing habitual paper waste as well.

A Kakao Mobility representative explained, "Not using paper receipts helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protects forests and trees," adding, "We also provided economic benefits to taxi drivers and operators by cutting costs on purchasing thermal receipt paper and issuing receipts."

Kakao T Bike is one of the easiest ways to reduce carbon emissions in daily life. Using an electric bicycle instead of an internal combustion engine vehicle can reduce carbon emissions by 18.1 kg per person per month. This amount is equivalent to the carbon absorbed by about 2.7 pine trees.

Since its launch in February 2019, Kakao T Bike has continuously made a significant environmental impact.

By December 2023, it recorded a cumulative usage distance of 78.66 million km, reducing approximately 13,036 tons of carbon dioxide emissions compared to using internal combustion engine vehicles. This is equivalent to the amount of carbon that about 3.16 million pine trees can absorb.

A Kakao Mobility representative said, "The popularization of eco-friendly electric bicycles will greatly help address climate change issues," and added, "We plan to develop into an eco-friendly mobility service that contributes to climate change response."

Since May last year, Kakao Mobility also started the ‘Give Shuttle Campaign,’ which allows participation in volunteer activities by riding Kakao T Shuttle. It is characterized by enabling users to access and participate in volunteer information smartly and easily through the Kakao T app they usually use.

Last year, the campaign operated under five themes: ▲Cultural heritage protection ▲Ecological species protection ▲Social enterprise visits ▲Helping rural areas ▲Supporting abandoned animals, attracting a total of 262 volunteer participants. Notably, 42% of them experienced volunteer activities for the first time through the Give Shuttle, adding significance.

Especially, through the Give Shuttle campaign conducted in August with the theme of ecological species protection, volunteers were able to take a greater interest in environmental protection. They listened to lectures on the value of volunteer work and the importance of biodiversity, and directly removed invasive kudzu threatening the habitat of the natural monument otters around Yeouiseo River Ecological Park, contributing to ecosystem protection.
