"Access Blocked to Prevent Information Leaks"
The Financial Services Commission, which oversees financial policy, and the Financial Supervisory Service, which supervises financial companies, have blocked access to the Chinese AI service DeepSeek. This decision was made based on concerns that DeepSeek excessively collects user data, necessitating measures to prevent information leakage.
According to financial authorities on the 6th, the Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service posted an internal notice this morning restricting access to DeepSeek from computers with external access.
Officials from the Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service explained, "Due to concerns over information leakage caused by DeepSeek's excessive collection of user information, access to DeepSeek has been blocked starting today."
Earlier, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy was the first government ministry to temporarily block the use of DeepSeek, citing worries that DeepSeek collects excessive learning data that could lead to information leaks. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also blocked access to DeepSeek.
Previously, public institutions proactively blocked access to DeepSeek. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, a public nuclear power generation company, and Korea Electric Power Corporation KPS, a public company responsible for power generation and transmission facility maintenance, were the first in the public sector to prohibit the use of DeepSeek. This marks the first case of restricting DeepSeek in the domestic public sector.
