Special Lecture on Extraterrestrial Planets and Life
Exploring Cosmic Curiosities with Dr. Kang Sungjoo, Known as "Hangseong"
“Wrinkled skin, thin arms, protruding belly, short legs... Could extraterrestrial life forms like E.T really exist?” An intriguing lecture that will satisfy this common curiosity is coming soon.
The National Busan Science Museum (Director Song Sam-jong) will hold a special lecture on space science titled “The Encounter with Extraterrestrial Life We Will Face in the Future: How Prepared Are We?” on the 8th at 2 PM in the museum’s main conference hall.
This lecture is part of the special lecture series, the Nth Science February lecture. It is organized in connection with the newly renovated Saessak Nuri Hall, which was revamped in January with a focus on space exploration, to help children living in the “New Space” era satisfy their curiosity about space and extraterrestrial life.
The lecture will be conducted by Dr. Kang Sung-joo, a science communicator known as “Hangseong.” He will discuss the over 5,000 confirmed exoplanets and the kinds of explorations humanity is conducting, as well as the possibilities of extraterrestrial life.
The lecture is open to everyone from children to adults, and advance registration is available through the National Busan Science Museum’s online ticketing site. The participation fee is 3,000 KRW.
Kwon Su-jin, head of the Science Culture Office at the National Busan Science Museum, said, “This will be a time to nurture scientific curiosity about the universe, which has become a target for exploration in the unknown world, and to contemplate the new opportunities and challenges that future generations will face.” She added, “We will continue to expand the base of science culture through public lectures on various topics.”
The National Busan Science Museum is operating various science experience programs during the school vacation. In the permanent exhibition hall, a special winter vacation guided program titled “Still, the Wheel Turns” explores the epicyclic gear wheel. On weekends, board game free play and maker experiences such as creating your own music box are held at the Dream Narae Garden. In the main conference hall, the children’s family musical “Blue Star and Tail Star” is performed three times every Sunday for free.
