Gwangju and the entire Jeonnam and Jeonbuk regions have been experiencing heavy snowfall for three consecutive days.
As of 7 a.m. on the 6th, a heavy snow advisory has been issued for Gwangju, five counties in Jeonnam (Jangseong, Muan, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Shinan), and Gochang in Jeonbuk.
So far, the recorded snowfall amounts are 30.5 cm in Sunchang Bokheung, 20.9 cm in Jangseong Sangmudae, 18.5 cm in Yeonggwang Yeomsan, 20.8 cm in Gochang, and 20.6 cm in Buan Wido.
Snow is expected to continue until the 7th, with most of the inland areas of Jeonnam clearing up by night, but some western parts of Jeonnam may see snow continue until the night of the 8th. The forecasted snowfall during this period is 5 to 10 cm, with some areas expected to receive more than 15 cm.
From the 3rd until now, Gwangju has reported a total of 25 incidents, including 16 falls, 4 traffic accidents, 3 icicle removals, and 2 icy road safety measures. In Jeonnam, 17 incidents have been reported, including a cargo truck falling into a farm road, prompting fire authorities to take safety measures.
An official from the Korea Meteorological Administration said, "Snow accumulation and icy roads are expected on side streets, alleys, sloped roads, and shaded roads, so please pay special attention to pedestrian safety."
