O Eon-seok, Dobong District Mayor (left), is inspecting the planned site for the installation of spectator seats at Jungnangcheon on the 14th of last month.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is constructing an 82-meter-long, 10-tiered spectator stand along Jungnangcheon Stream. It can accommodate approximately 1,000 people.
The district announced that the installation of the Jungnangcheon spectator stand will be completed by April. By February 12, before the ‘2025 Jeongwol Daeboreum Moon Viewing Event,’ about 350 seats will be created first.
The installation site is in front of Seowon Apartment Building 105 along Jungnangcheon Stream. This area is used for various festivals and events hosted by the district.
Previously, the district secured a budget of 900 million KRW for installation in consultation with Seoul City and began construction last month.
With the spectator stands installed in this space, it is expected that residents can comfortably rest during regular times, and visitors can enjoy performances more comfortably during events.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “We hope that with this spectator stand installation, Jungnangcheon Stream will become a more vibrant space.”
Eco-friendly Weekend Farm Plots in Songpa-gu Available from February 7
Songpa-gu Recruiting Cultivators for Eco-friendly Weekend Farms... 380 Plots of 9㎡ Each in Two Zones
Support Includes Compost and Farming Tool Rentals, with ‘Beginner Urban Farmer Education’ Held 12 Times Annually
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will recruit cultivators for this year’s eco-friendly weekend farms for Songpa residents from February 7 to 21.
Since 2009, the district has recruited weekend farm cultivators annually to provide residents with healthy leisure activities through urban agriculture. Especially, the farms operate without pesticides and chemical fertilizers, allowing residents to grow eco-friendly crops themselves, which has become increasingly popular amid rising vegetable prices due to ongoing high inflation.
The eco-friendly weekend farms in Songpa-gu are located at 444-17 Bangi-dong (Zone 1) and 445-7 Bangi-dong (Zone 2), comprising a total of 380 plots. After leasing, cultivators can use their plots until the autumn harvest in December.
The district provides cultivators with eco-friendly compost twice a year in spring and autumn, farming tool rentals, water facilities, rest areas, and other conveniences.
Additionally, to support residents with no farming experience, the district will operate ‘Beginner Urban Farmer Education’ 12 times a year, teaching farming methods, eco-friendly cultivation techniques, seasonal crop growing, and organic fertilizer production.
Any Songpa resident can apply for one plot per household during the application period from February 7 to 21.
General plots available include 220 plots at 444-17 Bangi-dong (Zone 1) and 110 plots at 445-7 Bangi-dong (Zone 2), totaling 330 plots. Each plot, including furrow area, is 9㎡, with an annual lease fee of 80,000 KRW.
Applications can be submitted online via the Songpa-gu website. Cultivators will be selected through a computerized lottery, with results announced on February 25 (Tuesday) at 4 PM on the district office website.
To support socially vulnerable groups, 50 plots are specially allocated. These are for basic livelihood security recipients, low-income households, families with three or more children, persons with disabilities, and national veterans, with an annual lease fee of 40,000 KRW. Applications can be submitted online during the application period or in person on February 10 only.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “Through Songpa’s weekend farms located in the city, residents can grow eco-friendly crops themselves, care for family health, and connect with nature. Even those without basic agricultural knowledge can experience urban farming through our ‘Beginner Urban Farmer Education,’ so we encourage many residents to participate.”
Seongdong-gu Single-Person Household Support Center Strengthens Social Relationship Formation
Focus on Enhancing Relationship Formation Functions to Achieve Synergy Among Three Health Areas: Physical Health, Mental Health, and Social Health, Addressing Loneliness and Isolation of Single-Person Households
‘Cooking Class’ Improved to ‘Social Dining’ to Promote Conversation and Communication Among Participants; Various New Projects Including ‘Pet Dog Etiquette Education Community’ Launched
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is strengthening the relationship formation programs at the ‘Seongdong-gu Single-Person Household Support Center’ to enhance social bonds and enable single-person households to lead healthier lives.
Opened in August 2022 at 31 Majang-ro 39-gil, the center offers various programs divided into three health areas?physical health, mental health, and social health?to help single-person households live balanced and healthy lives.
This year, the center aims to create synergy among these health areas while focusing on resolving loneliness and isolation commonly experienced by single-person households. To this end, relationship formation functions will be added to each program to address the concerns and needs of single-person households and facilitate smooth social relationship building.
First, the ‘Cooking Class’ aimed at improving dietary habits for single-person households will be upgraded to ‘Social Dining.’ According to Statistics Korea’s ‘2024 Statistics on Single-Person Households,’ 42.6% of single-person households reported difficulty maintaining a balanced diet.
‘Social Dining’ not only teaches cooking methods but also includes conversation and communication programs among participants to encourage social relationship formation. When participating in leisure and cultural programs, participants will be supported to form clubs and self-help groups to sustain long-lasting relationships beyond simple learning.
New projects meeting the demands of single-person households will also be launched. These are based on user surveys and satisfaction assessments conducted last year at the center, as well as benchmarking other institutions.
Notably, from this year, a ‘Pet Dog Etiquette Education Community’ for single-person households will be operated, reflecting feedback from single pet owners gathered at last year’s Seongdong-gu Pet Festival. Other new programs include home repair education, self-defense, learning unique cooking and plating techniques, and various activities that enhance daily convenience and enjoyment.
Additionally, the popular coloring program featuring design and color theory will be expanded with distinctive features.
Applications for the first half of the year’s programs open on February 4 via the ‘Seongdong-gu Single-Person Household Support Center’ website. Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “As the center enters its fourth year with enhanced programs, we expect single-person households to form healthier social networks. We will continue to do our best to implement tailored support policies essential for single-person households.”
