Former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn joined President Yoon Suk-yeol's criminal trial defense team on the 5th.
On the same day, former Prime Minister Hwang submitted a power of attorney to the Criminal Division 25 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Ji Gui-yeon), which is handling President Yoon's case. Former Prime Minister Hwang, who has raised allegations of election fraud, also participated in rallies opposing President Yoon's impeachment after the impeachment motion was filed.
Currently, President Yoon's defense team includes former Korea Communications Commission Chairman Kim Hong-il, former Secretary General of the National Unification Advisory Council Seok Dong-hyun, and former Daegu High Prosecutor's Office Chief Prosecutor Yoon Gap-geun, among others.
President Yoon, who was indicted and detained on charges of leading a rebellion on the 26th of last month, is scheduled for his first pretrial hearing on the 20th of this month. President Yoon's side filed a petition with the court the day before, claiming that the prosecution's detention and indictment were unlawful and requesting the cancellation of the detention.
