This project involves covering the Gyeongui-Jungang Line railway located between Jeong Yak-yong Library and Gyeongchun-ro within the Dasan Jigeum Public Housing District, and transforming the upper part and surrounding land into a park. The park will be approximately 594 meters long and 50 to 80 meters wide (about 18,000 pyeong).
The project focuses on connecting urban spaces divided by the railway and creating a three-dimensional complex cultural space where citizens can comfortably enjoy, heal, and rejuvenate. It is expected to maximize synergy effects based on excellent accessibility at the gateway of Namyangju City and various infrastructures.
Namyangju City is known as the city of Jeong Yak-yong, a great Confucian scholar of the Joseon Dynasty, whose birthplace and tomb are located there. The project section begins at the 'Jeong Yak-yong Belt,' where Jeong Yak-yong Library is situated.
This space is planned to be newly created reflecting the philosophy and values of Jeong Yak-yong, and will be developed as a complex cultural space where culture, education, and relaxation can be enjoyed simultaneously in nature, beyond just green space.
The space, tentatively named Jeong Yak-yong Park, will operate the Jeong Yak-yong Academy to provide educational and learning opportunities for citizens, and introduce a youth startup space to support startup infrastructure.
Additionally, a future-oriented urban park including an indoor garden where people can walk and enjoy regardless of weather and seasons will be established, offering citizens a space to enjoy various activities throughout all four seasons.
Namyangju City plans to closely cooperate with GH based on this agreement to systematically advance the project. Administrative procedures such as consultations with related agencies including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for district plan changes and detailed design services will be conducted, aiming to start construction in 2026 and complete the upper park in 2027.
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok of Namyangju City stated, “Jeong Yak-yong Park will be a future-oriented complex cultural park reflecting the Dasan Jeong Yak-yong brand, harmonizing rest, culture, education, and residence, becoming a representative landmark of Namyangju where citizens can enjoy rest and healing.” He added, “We will do our best to establish it as a meaningful space that enhances the city's dignity and improves citizens' quality of life.”
