Jeollanam-do has selected Park Jinsik, the head of Sana Farm in Hoejin-myeon, Jangheung, as the Forestry Worker of the Month for February.
Shiitake mushrooms, often called the "meat of the mountains" and loved for their unique aroma and savory taste, are rich in vitamin D, which boosts the body's immune function, and beta-glucan, an anti-cancer agent that enhances disease resistance. They also contain vitamin B, which strengthens bones and is excellent for preventing osteoporosis.
Since 2015, Park has been cultivating shiitake mushrooms using the traditional method of oak log cultivation. He consistently produces about 3 tons of shiitake mushrooms annually, generating a steady income of 100 million won.
While striving to develop a variety of products using shiitake mushrooms, such as shiitake jelly and shiitake hangwa, he continues to research processing methods and works to commercialize high-income products using shiitake. He also leads the dissemination of advanced mushroom cultivation techniques.
Moon Miran, Director of the Forest Recreation Division of Jeollanam-do, said, "We will further promote Jeollanam-do's excellent forest products to enhance their marketability and competitiveness, ensuring consumers can safely enjoy fresh forest products. We will also expand policies that support forestry workers."
