Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju has received the highest grade, 'Grade A', in the 2024 Traffic Culture Zone Survey organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, ranking 6th among all autonomous districts in the country.
According to the district on the 4th, the Traffic Culture Index is an indicator reflecting the local traffic culture awareness, and is announced by evaluating driving and walking behavior as well as traffic safety among local governments nationwide.
In this year's evaluation, the district scored a total of 84.47 points, two levels higher than the previous year, earning the highest grade A and ranking 6th among 69 autonomous districts nationwide.
Previously, the district carried out traffic safety campaigns (17 times), citizen-tailored traffic safety education (7 times), and operated traffic safety guardians for elementary school routes (14 locations), focusing on areas with frequent traffic accidents and children's school routes.
Since 2023, the district has also opened private coffee shops and convenience stores as rest areas, and has provided customized safety education for delivery workers in cooperation with the Road Traffic Authority, Rider Union, and the police.
Park Byungkyu, head of the district office, said, "The fact that Gwangsan-gu is the only district in Gwangju to achieve a Grade A in the 2024 Traffic Culture Index is the result of citizens' mature traffic culture awareness and the district's efforts to create a safer city," adding, "We will do our best to create the most exemplary and safest traffic environment in the country."
