The prosecution stated in the indictment that they ordered power and water cuts to certain media outlets while indicting President Yoon Seok-yeol on charges of leading a rebellion.

According to the indictment of President Yoon obtained by Asia Economy on the 3rd through the office of Park Beom-gye, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, President Yoon instructed Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, who was with him in the presidential office around the time of the declaration of martial law, to cut power and water to specific media companies.

The prosecution viewed that former Minister Lee “called the National Police Agency Commissioner around 23:34 on December 3, 2024, immediately after the proclamation order was issued, to check the police’s actions, and then called the Fire Agency Commissioner around 23:37.”

During this call, former Minister Lee instructed, “Around midnight, police will be deployed to A Newspaper, B Newspaper, C Broadcasting, D Broadcasting, and Polling Agency E, and if a request for cooperation to cut power and water comes from the National Police Agency Commissioner, please take action,” and the Fire Agency Commissioner relayed these instructions from former Minister Lee to the Deputy Commissioner of the Fire Agency, according to the prosecution’s assessment.

In the indictment, the prosecution wrote, “Around 23:40, the Deputy Commissioner of the Fire Agency called the head of the Seoul Fire Disaster Headquarters and repeatedly requested, ‘If a cooperation request comes from the National Police Agency regarding the proclamation order, please cooperate well,’ and around 23:50, the Fire Agency Commissioner called again to confirm whether there had been any cooperation requests from the National Police Agency.”
