Called 112 to "Turn Themselves In for Outstanding Fines"
Incoherent After Methamphetamine Use and Hallucinations
A couple who called 112 to turn themselves in for an outstanding fine was found to have made the call while hallucinating under the influence of drugs.
The Paju Police Station in Gyeonggi Province is investigating a woman in her 20s, Ms. A, and a man in his 30s, Mr. B, on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (drug use), Yonhap News reported on the 3rd. On the morning of the 2nd, around 8 a.m., Ms. A called 112 from an apartment in Yadong-dong, Paju, Gyeonggi Province, saying she wanted to turn herself in for an outstanding fine. Then, Mr. B, Ms. A’s boyfriend who was with her, took her phone and told the police, "(She) is drunk," before hanging up the call.
After receiving the report and arriving at the scene, the police checked the closed-circuit television (CCTV) in the apartment’s underground parking lot. They found footage of Mr. B grabbing Ms. A’s hand while she was lying down and pulling her into his vehicle. Suspecting dating violence, the police began tracking Mr. B’s vehicle. About three hours later, the vehicle was found in a park in Gyohadong, Paju.
The police separated Ms. A and Mr. B to take their statements, but both were incoherent and unable to provide proper testimony. During this process, the police found 29 disposable syringes and 1.73 grams of methamphetamine in Mr. B’s clothes and vehicle. After being taken to the police station, Ms. A tested positive for methamphetamine in a drug screening test, while Mr. B tested negative but reportedly admitted to multiple instances of drug use.
The couple, who are in a relationship, were found to have used methamphetamine at home and made the police report while hallucinating. Both have prior drug-related convictions and were wanted for failing to pay fines. The police have applied for arrest warrants for them and plan to conduct further investigations into how they obtained the drugs.
