Jumping Four Grades from E to A in Just One Year
Jung: "We Will Continue to Build a Safe Traffic Environment for Citizens"
The city with the highest traffic culture index in the Seoul metropolitan area was found to be Pyeongtaek-si in Gyeonggi-do.
According to the '2024 Traffic Culture Index Survey' recently announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, among the 66 cities, counties, and districts in the metropolitan area including Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi, Pyeongtaek-si recorded the highest score of 90.17 points. Pyeongtaek-si ranked second nationwide among 229 cities, counties, and districts, following Wonju-si in Gangwon-do (90.35).
The traffic culture index is data objectively evaluating the level of traffic culture by analyzing ▲driving behavior ▲pedestrian behavior ▲local government efforts ▲number of traffic accident casualties annually for all cities, counties, and districts nationwide by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Local governments with excellent traffic culture levels or high improvement rates are rewarded.
Pyeongtaek-si, which received an E grade with 70 points in the previous year's evaluation, scored high in driving behavior, pedestrian behavior, and local government efforts last year, rising four grades to an A grade within one year. Pyeongtaek-si's ▲driving behavior (49.78 points) ▲pedestrian behavior (18.86 points) ▲local government efforts (10.11 points) recorded the highest scores in the metropolitan area.
Jung Jang-seon, mayor of Pyeongtaek-si, said, "Despite the many vehicles traveling to various construction sites and industrial complexes, the reason the traffic culture index is the highest in the metropolitan area is thanks to the mature civic consciousness," adding, "We will continue to implement traffic accident improvement measures, expand enforcement equipment, and provide citizen education to build a traffic environment where citizens can feel safe."
