Establishment of a Three-Year Comprehensive Development Plan
for the Advancement of Agricultural and Marine Product Exports
Jangheung County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Sung) announced on the 3rd that it will make every effort to achieve its goal of 50 billion KRW in exports of local agricultural and marine products.
To establish a systematic foundation for the export industry, the county formulated a comprehensive three-year (2025-2027) development plan for the export of local agricultural specialties last year. Based on this, the county plans to discover effective policies and implement strategies to expand agricultural and marine product exports starting this year.
In December last year, Jangheung County Agricultural Technology Center held a loading ceremony for the export of processed products made from domestic wheat and rice flour to China. Provided by Jangheung County
According to export statistics provided by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), Jangheung County's agricultural and marine product exports in 2024 reached 39.7 billion KRW. This marks a 54% increase compared to 2023, with a total export performance of 84.9 billion KRW over the past three years.
By product, Musan gim accounted for the largest share at 46.4%, followed by duck feathers, seaweed, shiitake mushrooms, rice, and a total of 37 items exported to 26 countries including the United States, China, Japan, Germany, Australia, and Taiwan. Active overseas market strategies such as inviting foreign buyers for export consultation meetings and holding overseas promotional events have proven effective, with both the number of export destinations and products increasing each year.
In particular, exports of Musan gim, which has secured competitiveness in the global market by obtaining the 'ASC-MSC International Organic Certification for Seaweed,' have seen a significant increase.
Governor Kim Sung stated, "We will focus on fostering strategic export products to increase the number of exporting farmers and companies, and by enacting ordinances to promote agricultural and marine product exports, we will strive to increase residents' income and revitalize the local economy."
