On the morning of the 3rd, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Governor Oh Younghun emphasized the value of collaboration and the importance of maintaining the province's administrative philosophy at the "February Day of Communication and Empathy" event held at Tamna Hall in the provincial government office.

Governor Oh presented the collaboration between haenyeo (female divers) and related organizations during the search operation for the recent fishing boat accident that occurred near Tokki Island in Gujwa-eup, Jeju City on the 1st as a meaningful example. The haenyeo from Hadori voluntarily requested to participate in the search based on their deep understanding of the local waters, and through a joint operation with the Coast Guard, they found the missing person, who was in cardiac arrest, within just 10 minutes of deployment.

Governor Oh stated, "This is a case that demonstrates the expertise and community spirit of the great Jeju haenyeo, and it is a significant search operation worthy of being recorded in the history of global maritime disasters," adding, "What made this possible was the close collaborative system between the Department of Oceans and Fisheries and the Fire and Safety Headquarters."

Regarding the promotion of provincial policies, he emphasized the importance of consistent principles and the firm determination of public officials.

Governor Oh said, "Public officials must maintain a clear perspective without being swayed by critical views or public opinion," and continued, "While it is possible to adjust the speed or scale depending on the situation, the principles and direction of policies that have been agreed upon and promoted through public discussion must be respected and steadfastly upheld."

He further explained, "Some say that Jeju's administration only talks about the future and neglects the livelihood economy, but in reality, we are more proactive and sincere than any previous administration." He added that positive changes are being observed on the ground, such as among the Merchants' Association and shopping districts, through concrete policies like 10-year long-term installment payments, maternity leave support for sole proprietors, and utilizing vacant underground shopping mall spaces.

Regarding the introduction of the Jeju-type basic local government system, he reiterated, "This is an important policy that began as a campaign pledge, was selected as a key task for the 8th popularly elected administration, and has gone through step-by-step procedures such as ordinance enactment, the formation of the Administrative System Reform Committee, and public deliberation."

Governor Oh urged, "Public officials must clearly recognize that the principles and direction of the provincial administration remain unwavering, and be able to explain this well externally," adding, "I hope February will be a month to re-examine the direction of the provincial administration."

Meanwhile, the event included an awards ceremony for contributors to provincial development, a screening of a video on the appointment of new public officials in 2025, and one-minute promotions of key policies by each department.
